294 page cookbook features recipes from the families, faculty and staff, and
friends of the “Day School” over the past fifty-four years. The recipes are
accompanied by quotes, poetry, and general observations about life from
students, both past and present. Months of collecting, correcting,
testing, tasting, and proofreading recipes have ensured the quality and
longevity necessary for sales not only to the school family but the general
public. Sections
of the book cover all of the expected categories as well as a few surprises. A
section for kids includes easy to make tasty treats and non-edible craft
recipes. There is a section of recipes translated into Spanish. The “Family
Gatherings” section includes menus, tips, and grocery lists. The
whimsical color artwork, illustrating a variety of Day School gatherings, is by
Carol DeMoss. Ms. DeMoss is a local artist and Director of the Brownsville
Museum of Fine Art, acclaimed for her realistic paintings of rainforest and
marine life scenes. Her artwork can be seen in public murals, graphic panels,
illustrations in periodicals, and in private collections throughout the United
States and Mexico. The
